Pelkan Ranch – Knights Valley

Although located in the Knights Valley AVA, there's nothing "valley" about the Pelkan Ranch! Located at 1000' elevation on a rocky ridge top facing Mount St. Helena, this vineyard produces very intense, thick-skinned Syrah. The berries are typically so small and juiceless that we often have to climb in the tank at the start of cold soak and foot-tread it, much like it was done in the old days. Being at a higher altitude and often above the fog line, this site is picked relatively early, usually the end of September or beginning of October.
